Jackson, MS – October 4, 2017 – It is with a heavy heart that Miller Transporters announces the untimely passing of Vice President of Safety and Quality Brent Cobb on September 29, 2017. Brent was a fourth generation employee of the family owned company.
Born April 16, 1976 in Meridian, MS, Brent was an Eagle Scout, played soccer, and graduated from Meridian High School. He graduated from Mississippi State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and where he also earned his MBA. He proudly followed in the footsteps of his great grandfather H.D. Miller, Sr. who started the company and his grandfather James A. Miller who served as the second president of Miller Transporters. Respected by his co-workers and peers in the industry, Brent was currently serving as Vice President of Safety and Quality, elevating Miller Transporters’ signature trait, safety, to an industry-leading level.
Brent’s career with Miller Transporters started as a dispatcher in Memphis, TN in 1999. In two years, he was promoted to terminal manager in Collierville, TN where he worked for another Miller family owned business, Miller Intermodal Logistics Services (MILS). In 2004, Brent returned to Miller Transporters to become Terminal Manager in Baton Rouge, LA. In 2008, he was promoted to Director of Quality before being tapped in 2011 as the Vice President of Safety and Quality. During his tenure over the Safety and Quality departments, Miller was recognized an unprecedented four times as the American Chemistry Council’s Partner of the Year for their Responsible Care Management Safety program. In 2015, Miller won the Heil Trophy for Outstanding Safety, Harvison Division. Brent worked tirelessly to ensure Miller’s culture of safety and service were of the highest standards in the industry.
Brent Cobb lived a life of dedication and devotion, a life firmly grounded in his walk with Christ and made manifest in the generosity and loyalty he gave to his relationships with his family and friends. One of his favorite verses, Joshua 1:9, sustained him in everyday life and in times of great challenge. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Brent lived a life of courage and integrity and it showed with the results of his work. Brent is survived by his wife Catherine and their sons James and Matthew and parents, Betsy and Leonard Cobb. He was preceded in death by his brother Justin Cobb.
Brent served First Baptist Church Madison as a deacon and as an active supporter of children’s activities. Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Madison, specifically to the Children’s Ministry (memo line on check), 2100 Main Street, Madison 39110. Memorial gifts may also be made to the Justin and Brent Cobb Memorial Scholarship through the MSU Foundation, P.O. Box 6149, Starkville 39762 (662-325-1824).
